Notinteresting Science - The Pickle Light!

My faithful assistant, Josh Pechette and I wanted to prove whether the mysterious pickle light does indeed exist. Basically the idea behind it is that you actually plug in a pickle, and it's supposed to light up.

WARNING - THIS EXPERIMENT WAS CONDUCTED UNDER CONTROLLED CONDITIONS BY ADULT PROFESSIONALS!!! IF YOU SHOULD DECIDE TO TRY THIS, YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! THERE IS NO GUARANTEE OF SAFETY, AND PLAYING WITH LIVE ELECTRICAL CURRENT CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A JOKE BUT I AM BEING SERIOUS!!!
Before beginning the experiment, we needed to check out our equipment. We needed to make sure that this nail would conduct electricicy. Based on our observations, it does indeed, as its ohmmage is near 0.
Josh holding our test subjects, some cheap Kosher Dill pickles. From my research, these are supposedly the best, and the cheaper the better!
The "electrodes" have been carefully taped onto the ends of a stripped back extension cord.
We proceed to the outside, where in the event of a fire, we won't burn down Josh's residence. The extension cord is also protected on a GFI circuit.
Our first test subject is carefully selected.

The electrodes have been inserted into the test subject. They are not touching each other, just pushed slightly beneath the surface of the pickle. They were set on a glass vessel, being an insulator.

After that, we plugged in the cable. Watch this movie to view the results!

Afterwards, the pickle seemed unharmed, although it was a bit hot.
Preparing another pickle.
Here's a few photos of what it looks like lit up.
It was brighter than I expected, probably producing about 10 watts of light energy. Based on the math, we're guessing that the pickle consumed about 1200 watts of electricity, so the other 1190 watts went to making sound, and heat. Not a very efficient way to light your home.
We attempted to hook two pickles up in series, but only one of them lit up.
The other side effect of making a pickle light is the horrible smell, which is a combination of ozone and burnt vinegar.
Another lit up pickle.

Well, the pickle light was quite a success! Thanks Josh for being such a trusty assistant!

Until next time!
